ATLANTA — 2020 has been a tough year for many, and for a lot of people, pets and other animals have been a respite from the daily chaos.

From hero dogs, to cute kittens, to alligators, to even a venomous furry caterpillar -- we saw a lot of interesting animals in 2020.

Here are some of the most amazing stories that we covered in Georgia this year:

Dog saves neighbor after car falls on top of him while he was working on it

A Johns Creek man says he owes his life to his neighbor’s dog. Tony Dagnino was working on his truck, when it fell off the jack stand and began to crush him. That’s when his neighbor’s boxer mix named Root Beer came to the rescue.

Quick-thinking Georgia officer rescues dog that fell out of car on interstate

The officer, who police didn’t identify, was driving on I-95 in Chatham County near Savannah when he spotted a small dog fall out of the window of a vehicle in front of him at 80 miles per hour.

The officer didn’t hesitate to run onto the interstate to rescue to the pup.

Good news! Dog stolen outside CVS reunited with family

A metro Atlanta couple whose car was stolen with their miniature dachshund inside has been reunited with their family dog.

A good Samaritan found him wandering alone in a parking lot.

Atlanta police have a new tool to help keep the public safe – a dog named Scout!

Scout is the Atlanta Police Department’s first emotional support dog. “Scout provides instant therapy by elevating moods, relieving stress and lessening anxiety,” the department said.

Peachtree City alligator spotted again after 4 years

After 4 years, an alligator that caused a stir in Peachtree City is back.

It was in 2016 when Channel 2 Action News covered this story about the gator. Back then, a truck driver spotted it near Flat Creek. Authorities asked people not to feed the gator.

Kittens crash Georgia Aquarium, get private tour

While the Georgia Aquarium is closed to the public amid the COVID-19 pandemic, some furry felines got to take a private tour.

The tour was a way to show off the cute kittens that are available for adoption through the Atlanta Humane Society.

Cobb firefighters rescue tiny kitten from storm drain -- and give him a home

Cobb County firefighters rescued a kitten from a storm drain earlier this week -- and now one firefighter has adopted him.

Firefighters with Fire Engine 23 said the kitten they have affectionately named “Storm” was stuck in a storm water runoff pipe after heavy rain.

Watch Atlanta Humane Society puppies explore Georgia Aquarium

While the Georgia Aquarium and other Atlanta spots were closed during the COVID-19 outbreak, puppies from the Atlanta Humane Society got the royal treatment.

The pups were able to roam free all around the Georgia Aquarium – making new friends, relaxing and getting treats along the way.

They may look cute and furry but don’t let that fool you. Puss Caterpillars are showing up in Georgia right now and they can put you in a world of pain.

The little creatures are about an inch long, with short, toxic spines hidden underneath its brown or gray fur.
