Lithia Springs coach accused of having sex with student

LITHIA SPRINGS, Ga.,None — Douglas County sheriff's investigators arrested a Lithia Springs High School teacher and coach accused of having sexual contact with a 17-year-old female student.

Sheriff Phil Miller told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri that police received information from a third party who believed Dennis Brown was engaged in an inappropriate relationship with at least one student.

Investigators interviewed a 17-year-old student who told them she began text messaging with Brown. She said those texts became sexual in nature and that in September she met the teacher at the Lithia Springs Park and Ride on Lee Road.

"The sheriff told Napier Viteri that the teen told investigators she and Brown did engage in a sex act in the parking lot off school property, during school hours.

Students at the high school had mixed reactions. Chelsea Wentworth said she noticed Brown behaving suspiciously.

"He always had his phone out and everything, and if you went up to his desk he'd hide everything. We weren't really surprised," Wentworth said.

She said the female student has been the subject of recent bullying.

"There's been posters made about this girl, around the school, saying that she shouldn't be here and all this because she got him fired," Wentworth said.

A school representative said Brown resigned from his position at the school. Brown is charged with custodial sexual assault.
