ATLANTA — Civil rights activist the Rev. Jesse Jackson came to Atlanta on Monday morning to discuss a high-profile death row case.
Jackson joined state Sen. Donzella James (D-College Park) at a news conference for inmate Troy Davis. James said she hopes to bring attention to the unfair treatment he has received from the justice system and avoid an unjust death sentence.
Davis was convicted in the 1989 murder of Savannah police Officer Mark MacPhail. Since the conviction, witnesses have changed or recanted their testimony, but the Supreme Court recently denied Davis' appeal.
The news conference was held at 10 a.m.
