Hiker With Son Finds Decomposing Body In Park

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga.,None — A man hiking with his son made a gruesome discovery in a Gwinnett County park Sunday.

A decomposing body was found at Little Mulberry Park off Fence Road in Auburn, Gwinnett police said. They said they were called to the park around 6:30 p.m.

A hiker spotted what appeared to be a body and kept his son at bay while he probed further, police said.

"Luckily, he had the forethought to keep his son back on the trail. He did go in to investigate if it was indeed the body and called the police," Officer Jeffery Richter told Channel 2's Amy Napier Viteri.

Police said the body was so badly decomposed they could not determine its gender. They said an autopsy would reveal more about the circumstances surrounding the victim's death.

"No cause of death at this time. It's just too early in the investigation," Richter said.

Officers taped off a section of the park as they gathered evidence from the scene.
