ATLANTA,None — Republican Fourth Congressional District candidate Liz Carter posted online videos of what she says are a series of embarrassing gaffes made by her opponent, Democratic incumbent Hank Johnson.
"It's embarrassing to have people across this country call and laugh and say, 'You guys must be nuts. Look at who you guys keep electing,'" Carter told Channel 2's Richard Elliot from her campaign office in Tucker.
The latest video, which Carter said she shot herself Monday at a special event honoring Georgia's Community Empowerment Zones, showed Rep. Johnson introducing a Minnesota congressman and trying to make a joke about the man's home state.
"Sometimes I think that state has a political, uh, psychological complex," Johnson said on the video as chuckles could be heard in the crowd. "What do they call that? Not manic-depressive but something. Psychotic, maybe."
Johnson made national news earlier this year when he talked about the possibility of Guam capsizing because of too many people. Carter has posted that video too, as well as a number of others.

When asked about the Guam comment back in March, Johnson told reporters he was making a subtle joke about a population tipping point possibly damaging Guam's ecosystem. When Elliot asked his campaign about Carter's video postings, it issued a statement saying "Congressman Johnson considers this desperation politics unworthy of response."
Carter defended the online postings. "It's the embarrassment," she said. "This is not a great representation of who the people of District Four are."
Carter will have an uphill battle trying to unseat Johnson. Georgia's Fourth Congressional District has long been a Democratic Party stronghold, which elected Cynthia McKinney to office several times.
