Funeral held for slain East Point officer

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — Colleagues, family and friends gathered over the weekend to say goodbye to a beloved East Point police officer found shot to death last week inside her Riverdale home.

Channel 2 investigative reporter Mark Winne was at East Point First United Methodist Church, just a few blocks from where Cpl. Crystal Parker worked. The six-year department veteran was found shot in the head Tuesday night, police said. Authorities said she may have been dead up to three days.

Loved ones spoke highly of Parker's committment to serving her community.

"I stand before you honored and proud to have had Cpl. Crystal Parker a part of the City of East Point and our community," Earnestine Pittman, the mayor of East Point, told mourners.

This week, Channel 2 Action News talked to Parker's father and brother about the officer known for her big heart and dedication to the force. They said Parker was a kind, loving person who will be sorely missed.

The officer's ex-roomate, Danielle Parker, was arrested and charged with her murder. The women are not related, police said.

Danielle Parker is still locked up in the Fulton County jail and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 24.

Crystal Parker's burial was at Forest Lawn in College Park.
