JONESBORO, Ga.,None — Family, friends and law enforcement officers in full dress uniform showed up by the dozens to pay their respects to slain Clayton County Sheriffs Deputy Rick Daly.
Daly was shot to death in the line of duty a week ago.
Lt. Alan Kerstetter with the Clayton County sheriffs office said, "He's sorely missed."
Ambulances, fire trucks and marked cars all lined the street and parking lot of Tara Garden Funeral home Wednesday showing the love and respect for Daly.
Respect even from those who had never met him and wore a different uniform.
"When one goes down, its hard on all of us," Sgt. James Morgan with the Georgia State Patrol said.
Those who knew Daly said he was one of the finest, a cop's cop.
"If you asked him to do something, 'I got it lieutenant. You need me to take care of this; I got it lieutenant,'" Kerstetter said.
Daly was fatally shot a week ago while trying to serve an arrest warrant.
Police said the shooter was 17-year-old Jonathon Bun.
As officers walked into the visitation with their heads bowed Wednesday, many said their hearts were with Daly's wife, children and grandchildren.
"You can see they have peace with God. They understand this was part of the job," Morgan said.
"They are still part of our family. Never will be anything but part of our family. And we're going to take care of them" Kerstetter said.
Wednesday's visitation goes until 9 p.m.
Dalys funeral will be held at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro Thursday.
Thousands of law enforcement officers are expected for the funeral.
