ATLANTA,None — Distressed homeowners poured into the Georgia World Congress Center on Thursday to get help keeping their homes.
Homeowners look for help at Wells Fargo event
I want to get a manageable mortgage because I love my house. I want to keep it, attendee Karen Roman said.
Wells Fargo said it contacted 9,500 of its customers in metro Atlanta who appear to be struggling with their loans and encouraged them to downtown Atlanta for an assistance event. A company representative said helping people keep their homes is what the two-day event is all about.
Wells Fargo has 150 employees ready to help customers get loan modifications. The company said it will be able to provide that to two out of three attendees.
This really improves communication when you can meet eye-to-eye with the person working with you explain your situation. We can review your paper work with you. It does make a difference, Wells Fargos Hugh Rowden told Channel 2s Carol Sbarge.
Customers agreed.
To me, nothing beats a face-to-face conversation, Roman said.
Roman said she hopes the trip downtown will end up lowering her stress. Wells Fargo expects 70 percent of attendees to receive some form of assistance.
There are nonprofit groups available to help people find ways to catch up on their other bills. In addition to Wells Fargo, applicants can meet with representatives from Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and private investment banks, depending on who owns their loans. Applicants are asked to bring income documentation, asset and expense summaries, a mortgage statement and a letter describing their situation.
Wells Fargo is anticipating up to 2,000 people over two days. The event is being held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
