CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — After a massive search, officials confirmed Friday afternoon that they have found the body of a missing Cobb County police officer who disappeared during a boat ride Thursday.
The officer has been identified as 35-year-old Thomas "Brent" Stephens of Douglasville. Sgt. Brent Stephens has been employed with the Cobb County Police Department since 1996. He was a a member of the SWAT team and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December of 2009.
Officials said sonar technology was used to locate the Stephens.

Stephens went missing shortly after midnight on Allatoona Lake in Cherokee County, authorities said.
Investigators said Stephens, who was off-duty at the time, had just finished having dinner with friends then shortly after disappeared from a boat. Police said the man driving the boat was also a Cobb Co. police officer.
"I think they had been at a restaurant and came back to the marina," said Lt. Jay Baker with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
Dive teams from Bartow, Cherokee, Cobb, Forsyth and Hall counties were also involved.
