MABLETON, Ga. — An 8-month-old baby was left inside a Cobb County day care, and firefighters were called to free the baby from the locked building, Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce said.
It happened at the River Oaks day care in the 5400 block of Floyd Road in Mableton.
Pierce told Channel 2's Ross Cavitt that when the baby's mother went to pick up the child, she saw the owner of the day care leave. The mother told police that the building was locked up.
The mother called 911 and firefighters broke into the building to get the baby out, police said.
"It shouldn't have happened," said day care owner Sue Pierce, who was very remorseful.
The baby was asleep inside.
"I'm just happy to be here holding her," said the baby's mother, Lakristy Rogers.
Rogers said she will continue to allow her daughter to attend the day care.
"It was an honest mistake from a good woman," said Rogers.
It was not immediately known if charges would be filed.
