COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — People in College Park said they are pleased an Atlanta police sergeant charged with DUI did not get special treatment in their city.
Officials arrested Sgt. Carla Middlebrook when she made an illegal left turn on Old National Highway, police said.
Officers said Middlebrook had "slurred speech, droopy eyes," and she could not keep her balance.
According to the police report, her blood alcohol level was .123.
"I think the College Park police should be commended for upholding a standard of justice in the area so that a cop was treated just like a regular citizen would have been," said College Park resident Sheryl Sands.
Middlebrook is a 22-year veteran of the Atlanta Police Department who works in the Accreditation Planning and Research Department.
She has been suspended with pay.
