Atlanta groundskeeper yields instant $400K prize

ATLANTA — An Atlanta groundskeeper has hauled away a hefty prize from the Georgia Lottery. Lavoris Harris, 30, played the new instant game Lucky Streak and won a $400,000 top prize.

Sugar Hill Chevron Food Mart, 4725 Nelson Brogdon Blvd. N.E. in Sugar Hill, sold the winning ticket.

“I looked, and I couldn’t believe it,” Harris recalled. “I really didn’t freak out. I was calm, and that surprised me.”

Excited over his windfall, Harris anticipates purchasing a home and a new car for himself.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $14.8 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.6 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
