ATLANTA — As a sunnier season springs forth, so has a three-quarter-million dollar Georgia Lottery prize for one lucky Atlanta woman. Shaniqua Maddox won a $750,000 prize playing the instant game Lady Luck 7.
The 22-year-old purchased her winning ticket at Pick N Pay, 1388 Joseph E. Boone Blvd. N.W. in Atlanta.
Maddox credits an itchy right hand as her reason for stopping to play the lottery. She scratched the ticket while in the store.
“I was in shock,” she said. “I showed it to the clerk, and he said, ‘That’s it!’”
Maddox, an inventory associate, has no immediate plans for her windfall.
Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $16 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
