Hundreds of colorful characters from your favorite film, TV and comics will descend upon Atlanta this weekend as Dragon Con takes over downtown. The iconic festival features a who's who of your favorite fantasy and sci-fi actors and creators, panels and fun events like dance parties and costume contests.

Atlanta plays host to the largest African-American GLBT celebration in Atlanta this weekend. Pride holds both female-oriented events and male-centric events including parties galore, dinners and a marketplace, community empowerment seminars and educational workshops at the event's host hotel, the Georgian Terrace.
Friday, September 1 through Sunday, September 3
The largest independent book festival in the country descends on Decatur with author book talks, panels, writing workshops and books on just about every subject under the sun. This year's keynote event focuses on the importance of journalism in a time of the 24-hour news cycle.

Tons of fun in the sun and in the water is on offer at Lake Lanier for the holiday weekend. Guests can swim, play waterside sports and enjoy the water park, as well as take in two fireworks shows, live music, family "foam" parties and football and entertainment on a 5-story-high screen.
