Grab the flag: Double Dare premiered 29 years ago today

Double Dare aired on Nickelodeon starting in Oct. 1986

If you grew up in the late 80s and early 90s there's  a pretty good chance you dreamed of having green slime dumped on you.

The family game show "Double Dare" was a smash hit and immediately the anchor of the Nickelodeon network when it premiered on Oct 6, 1986.

Mark Summers was the perfect host as the red team battled the blue team through piles of whip cream and chocolate syrup all for a chance to reach the iconic final obstacle course.

Teams took turns answering kid-friendly trivia questions, daring each other to answer for more money or risk facing a physical challenge.

Originally taped in Philadelphia, the show eventually moved to Nickelodeon Studios inside Universal Studios in Orlando.

The show ran through 1993 with a variety of names including Super Sloppy Double Dare and Family Double Dare.

It returned for a brief run at the turn of the century on Nickelodeon as Double Dare 2000.
