ATLANTA — It appears the Atlanta Hawks will be getting the band back together for 2021.
The team has agreed to a deal to keep soon to be free agent John Collins in Atlanta for the foreseeable future, according to reports.

ESPN is reporting the deal will be 5-years, $125 million for the 6-9 forward who has been one of the “glue” performers for the Hawks during his four seasons was a first-round pick by Atlanta back in 2017. The fifth year included in the deal is an option.

He was the first of the pieces for the current Hawks roster which includes recently extended Trae Young, Bogdan Bogdanovic, Clint Capela and a flurry of other players.

The Hawks are fresh off their 2020-21 playoff run that saw them win the NBA’s Southern Division and go on to knock off the New York Knicks and top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers before losing in the Eastern Conference Finals to the eventual NBA Champs, the Milwaukee Bucks.
Collins was a key piece to the Hawks success. He averaged 17.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this past season and has averaged 17.4 points and 8.4 rebounds for his career.

He’s known for his acrobatic dunks and made himself into one of the better-rounded players in the NBA with the ability to score inside, rebound, work off the pick and roll along with becoming a good three-point shooter and improving as a defender.

Collins’ contract comes two days after the Hawks agreed to a rookie maximum extension contract with Young. The two sides agreed to a 5-year extension worth up to $207 million. The contract will start during the 2022-23 season and go through 2027.
The Hawks begin training camp in a little over a month, with the first day being Sept. 28. The NBA regular season kicks off Oct. 19.
