Atlanta Braves quest for the World Series begins Friday

ATLANTA — Now that the Major League Baseball regular season has come to an end, it’s time for the playoffs to begin.

The Atlanta Braves clinched their fourth consecutive National League East pennant on Thursday and played their final regular season game on Sunday, defeating the Mets and finishing the year with an 88-73 record.

The Braves will begin their quest for the 2021 World Series by playing the Milwaukee Brewers in the National League Divisional Series.

MLB announced the schedule of games for the best-of-five series.

Here’s a full list of games in the series, the first two games have set start times, while the rest are to be determined. The entire series will be broadcast on TBS.

  • Friday, Oct. 8: Braves at Brewers. Start time 4:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 9: Braves at Brewers. Start time 5 p.m.
  • Monday, Oct. 11: Brewers at Braves. Start time 1:07 p.m. (could move based on ALDS results)
  • Tuesday, Oct. 12: Brewers at Braves. Start time 5:07 p.m. (if necessary; could move based on ALDS results, Dodgers-Giants results)
  • Thursday, Oct. 14: Braves at Brewers. Start time 5 p.m. (if necessary; could move based on ALDS results, Dodgers-Giants results)

The winner of the series will move on to the National League Championship Series which will begin Oct. 16.

Charlie Morton will be the starting pitcher for Game 1 vs. the Brewers. Morton had a fantastic 2021 regular season, going 14-6 with a 3.34 ERA.

Game 2′s starter will be recently named NL Pitcher of the Month Max Fried. Fried went 14-7 during the season with a 3.04 ERA.

Ian Anderson will likely start on the mound in Game 3. Anderson, who was out in the middle of season with an injury, went 9-5 during the season with a 3.58 ERA.

The last time the Braves and Brewers met in July, it was the first series after the Braves acquired new talent.

Atlanta remade its outfield at midseason after losing Ronald Acuña Jr. to a season-ending knee injury and Marcell Ozuna to legal troubles.

General manager Alex Anthopoulos acquired outfielders Joc Pederson, Eddie Rosario, Adam Duvall and Jorge Soler near the July 30 trade deadline.
