There was a special moment before the Georgia Bulldogs’ season-opener Saturday against Oregon. A full house of fans inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium came together to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ to UGA legend Vince Dooley.
The former head coach and athletic director turns 90 years old Sunday.
It was a bit of misdirection to pull-off the moment, as Dooley thought he was walking to midfield to join other Peach Bowl legends ahead of the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game. Instead, a huge birthday cake was wheeled-out while Georgia’s marching band played ‘Happy Birthday.’
Fans of both schools stood and sang.
Dooley has ties to the University of Georgia for nearly 60 years. With 201 wins, he still stands as UGA’s winningest coach.
