Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence received an early Christmas present Thursday night. The Cartersville native was named one of the four Heisman Trophy finalists.
Lawrence will compete for college football’s most coveted award with Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith and Florida quarterback Kyle Trask.
The winner will be announced in a virtual ceremony on Jan. 5.

Lawrence was the preseason favorite to win, but he missed two games after COVID-19 sidelined him. He did return for rest of the season and dominated in the ACC championship rematch with Notre Dame.
The Clemson quarterback finished the regular season with 22 touchdowns, 2,753 passing yards, 69.2% pass completion and only four interceptions.
Lawrence also added seven rushing touchdowns and 211 rushing yards to his totals this year.
Heisman voting is already completed, but Lawrence will have a chance to shine one more time in the Sugar Bowl. The No. 2 Tigers face the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
It is expected to be Lawrence’s last game with him projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
