Zebulon woman kicks off holiday season with $383K

A Zebulon woman is celebrating a win from the Georgia Lottery. Rita Waugh is one of two winners each to win a $383,592 jackpot prize, matching all five numbers, from the Dec. 14 Fantasy 5 drawing.

Caddies Corner, 10030 Highway 19 N. in Zebulon, sold the winning Quik Pik ticket. The second jackpot-winning ticket was sold in Moultrie.

Winning numbers from the Dec. 14 Fantasy 5 drawing were: 17-26-33-34-37.

Waugh, 66, discovered her windfall while on the Georgia Lottery’s website.

“I started to cry,” she said. “I can’t believe it.”

The lucky winner and her husband, Robert, recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary.

For the moment, the couple have no immediate plans for their windfall.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corp. has returned more than $15.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs, including Georgia’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program. More than 1.7 million students have received HOPE, and more than 1.3 million 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
