MARIETTA, Ga.,None — A truck slammed into a Marietta power substation on Monday causing a widespread power outage and traffic gridlock, officials said.
Channel 2's Ross Cavitt reported a heavily damaged truck lying on its side inside a fenced off power station near the intersection of Pickens Industrial Drive and Allgood Road.
The truck veered off the road, through a guard rail and over a wall, according to Cavitt.
Firefighters extricated the driver from his truck and he was flown to Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter ambulance.
The damaged to the substation caused widespread power outages. Officials said the truck damaged five voltage regulators.
Police said at least 4,400 customers were without power, and traffic lights were out on North Marietta Parkway, Cobb Parkway, Allgood Road, and Cherokee Street.
Power was restored about two hours after the accident.
