Recall alert: Nissan recalls 854K Sentras for brake-light issue

Nissan has announced the recall of more than 854,000 Sentra vehicles because of a brake-light issue.

The lights may not come on when the brake pedal is pressed, The Associated Press reported.

The reason is due to potential silicon contamination from grease used near the brake light switch, which can cause oxidation. In addition to the brake lights not illuminating, the engine may not start.

Owners may be alerted by a dashboard light, the AP reported.

The recall affects some Sentra compacts manufactured from 2016 through 2019.

Owners will get a letter in April instructing them to schedule a repair appointment if a malfunction happens to their car. A second letter will be sent to owners in the fall once more parts become available to have it corrected in all affected vehicles. Dealers will replace the switch and add a protective grommet to the car, the AP reported.
