Using a ladder and a safety harness, a firefighter went down into the hole, where he attached another harness made of webbing to the animal, and then helped to lift the dog out of the hole, WFLA reported.

Firefighters described the dog as being very friendly, and in the video it happily wags its tail as its harness is removed.

Despite the fall, the dog did not appear to have any injuries, WFLA reported.

A spokesperson for the South Walton Fire District said they did not know how the dog came to be stuck in the hole, but a friend of the owner was waiting to claim it when the dog was rescued.

Workers helped seal the hole after the rescue, WFLA reported.
