SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A child whose treatment at the hands of Syracuse, New York police sparked debate is now in trouble again.
Video posted to Facebook April 17 showed the screaming 8-year-old being put into a back of a Syracuse police SUV after the child allegedly stole a bag of chips.
Syracuse police confirmed the same child was issued a juvenile appearance ticket on charges he stole another child’s bike Thursday night, WSTM reported.
A police spokesperson told WSYR that police were called to a report of an armed robbery, where the 8-year-old was accused of threatening the child to whom the bike belonged. Police said no knife was seen. The woman who filed the complaint told police the 8-year-old pushed her child off the bike, WSTM reported.
The original video showing the 8-year-old was recorded by Kenneth Jackson, who had felt the police response was inappropriate, as we previously reported. After that incident, police brought the child home and spoke with his father. No charges were filed.
