DECATUR, Ga. — A Dekalb County church is trying to replace stolen electronics after thieves broke into the church three times.
Thieves broke into Briarlake Baptist Church on Saturday night. Then, church leaders believe they came back two more times to try to get more stuff.
The church estimates the stolen property, damage and needed upgrades will cost $12,000 to $14,000.
Thieves took several large televisions, a video game system from a youth game room, computer parts and a cash drawer.
"They've come once, twice, third time (Monday) in broad daylight," Briarlake Baptist Church lead pastor Tommy Ferrell told WSB-TV's Linda Stouffer.
"We think they're probably finished," he said. "We hope."
The damage went unnoticed at first, because the thieves targeted Briarlake Baptist Church on a weekend when hundreds of members were volunteering for service projects. Sunday worship services were outside, so they didn't notice the broken window until Monday.
The pastor said the timing is ironic, but he's focusing on the positive. He also said the church would have been happy to assist anyone in need.
"I don't think they're going to find any peace until they make amends and return the merchandise," Ferrell said.
