Teen Takes Plea Deal In School Striptease

DECATUR, Ga. — DeKalb County authorities said a teenager accused of performing a striptease in a classroom accepted a plea deal Thursday.

Solicitor-General Robert James said Kiyon Benton agreed to perform 20 hours of community service, apologize to his mother and meet with a probation officer for six months.

He also must write a 500-word essay on how a criminal conviction can affect his life.

Benton was one of three former Southwest DeKalb High School students charged with public indecency and disrupting a public school in Dec. 2008. All have since graduated.

Prosecutors have offered Benton's classmates a similar deal. A jury in March found their chorus teacher, Nathan Grigsby, not guilty of five counts of contributing to the deprivation of a minor.
