SWAT suspect may be tied to Gwinnett rape cases

Larry Anthony Davis

NORCROSS, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News has learned Gwinnett County police are investigating if the man arrested after a Norcross SWAT standoff is the same man who raped two Gwinnett County women.

Monday, police told Channel 2's Kerry Kavanaugh about the possible connection between two similar rapes that were reported before the SWAT standoff last Wednesday.

Norcross police said Larry Anthony Davis, 25, posed as a maintenance worker at the Wood Chase Apartment Complex in Norcross, forcing his way into the victim's apartment.

"There are a lot of similarities between the case in Norcross where the subject was arrested and actually two cases in Gwinnett," Cpl. Jake Smith with the Gwinnett County police told Kavanaugh.

Channel 2 Action News reported last week police issued a sketch at the Bristol Court Apartments off Peachtree Corners Circle. They said on March 18, a man slipped through an unlocked patio door and attacked the woman inside.

Monday, Kavanaugh learned a second rape was reported just two days later.

A woman living at Las Palmas apartments off Dawson Boulevard told police a man rushed her when she opened her door, forcing her back inside.

"We can't say with 100 percent certainty that this is our guy right now. But there has not been another incident since he's been arrested which is good," Smith said.

Smith said in the two Gwinnett incidents the suspect wore a black ski mask. Norcross police said they discovered a black mask among Davis' belongings.

"We need to get all the people like that off the streets," Bristol Court resident Angelina Chatman said.

Monday, Kavanaugh found concerned residents somewhat relieved police may have found their man.

"It was very scary when I first heard it, but it is a big relief," resident Tina Lewis said.

"Good very good, so we don't have to be scared no more," resident Catherine Srampical said.

Davis is in jail on the Norcross charges, including sexual assault and sexual battery. Gwinnett County police said they are awaiting the results of DNA evidence tests.

Police caution people still take proper precautions, always securing all doors and windows.

Channel 2 Action News also learned law enforcement was already looking for Davis before Wednesday's SWAT showdown.

The Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office confirms Davis is a registered sex offender in Ohio.

Kavanaugh checked the Ohio Department of Corrections website and discovered Davis is wanted for a parole violation for failing to report his change of address since Jan. 31.
