Shattered glass door startles hotel guests

DUNWOODY, Ga.,None — A local couple seeking a quiet getaway in a posh metro Atlanta hotel got the scare of their lives when a large glass balcony door shattered, sending thousands of shards of glass into their room.

Sterling Gilmore told Channel 2’s Tom Regan, he was sitting in the living room of their suite at the Perimeter Hotel and Suites on Perimeter West in Dunwoody on Sunday morning. Gilmore said he heard a loud crash that he initially thought was the sound of a delivery cart overturning in the hallway.

“Seconds after that, my wife screamed from the bedroom. I rushed in to see the glass sliding door had broken. Just shattered,” Gilmore said.

“Luckily we closed the curtains the night before, had we not, she would have been covered with glass.” Gilmore said.

Gilmore said he had no clue what caused the sliding door to shatter. He estimated it to be about 5 feet wide and 8 feet tall.

“There were holes in the curtain from the force of the glass. We were just dumbfounded by what happened,” he said.

Gilmore told Regan there was no indication that someone had thrown a rock or any other object at the eighth-floor door. He says he worries it could happen again and someone might get seriously hurt.

“For this to shatter for no apparent reason, there’s a problem somewhere. I don’t know if it’s the glass or the framing around the glass,” Gilmore said.

Regan called the hotel seeking comment from management on the incident but has not received a return email or phone call.
