Racial Slurs, Anti-Semitic Graffiti Spray-Painted On Driveways

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — Deputies said several Douglas County homeowners woke up Sunday morning to find racist graffiti sprawled across their property.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office investigators said someone spray-painted racist and anti-Semitic graffiti on several driveways overnight.

The vandalism happened in the Cedar Mountain Park subdivision just outside of Douglasville.

"It's a hate crime. Words that people shouldn't use," said resident Earl Durham.

Durham said he found racist and anti-Semitic graffiti scrawled out on several driveways in his neighborhood.

"I really felt bad. This is the first time something (like this) has happened in our neighborhood," said Durham.

When Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik arrived at the scene Sunday morning, sheriff's deputies were documenting the hate-filled vandalism and neighbors were preparing to clean it up.

The vandals also struck Tim Gladden's driveway.

"I was just shocked to see that. Anytime you see racial slurs painted on your driveway, you're kind of shocked," said Gladden.

One woman, who did not want to be identified, said she saw something suspicious Saturday night.

"I saw three Caucasian children walking down the road that I haven't seen here before," she said. She said the children were dressed all in black.

"They stared at me, looked at me for a long time," she said.

She told Petchenik that she believes they are behind the vandalism.

"First, they need to clean it all up and their parents should be responsible for raising them wrong," she said.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office detective said those responsible will face criminal damage to property charges, but because of the racially-charged writing they will also face more serious hate crime charges as well.
