Penske Customer's Life Saved By Phone Call

KENNESAW, Ga. — Tim Neitzel says being at the wrong place at the right time possibly saved his life.

Neitzel was scheduled to be at the Penske truck leasing office in Kennesaw on the day police say a former disgruntled employee went on a shooting spree there.

Neitzel told Channel 2 Action News reporter Mike Petchenik that he was planning to return a truck he had rented at about the same time police say Jesse James Warren shot five people, killing three. But, a conference call delayed Neitzel.

"I just feel so horrible for everyone who was there," said Neitzel. "It's just a horrible tragedy."

Neitzel eventually brought the truck back Friday when the business reopened.

Customers who entered the building described the mood as somber, and Penske Truck Leasing President Brian Hard said the office's 30 employees have had access to grief counselors.

Warren, 60, had worked there as a technician from June 2005 until last July. Company officials would not say if he was fired. There is no known motive and the company says he chose his targets at random.
