ATLANTA — An Atlanta pawn shop was broken into early Tuesday morning, Fulton County police said.

Police said the break-in occurred around 3 a.m. Several items were stolen and the front doors of the shop were smashed in, leaving shattered glass strewn across the floor. Channel 2's Darryn Moore was at the scene as an employee swept up the mess.

Police said they were alerted of the incident after the burglars tripped the alarm. They arrived at The Pawn Mart on Old National Highway within three minutes of the alarm call, but the burglars had already fled the scene, Fulton County police spokeswoman Melissa Parker said.

Parker said the robbers used a van to smash through the building, but abandoned it at the scene. Police said the van had a popped steering column.

Officers told Channel 2's Darryn Moore that stolen items included computers and flat-screen televisions.

The shop's surveillance cameras may have captured the crime.
