News anchor petitions to keep her rapist behind bars

CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte news anchor and sexual assault victim is speaking out and asking for help to keep the man who raped her behind bars.

Maureen O’Boyle has set up a petition, hoping to stop the man who raped her, James Starling, from being released on parole.

“My rape was the most terrifying day of my life, but the horror only escalated when I learned James Starling, inmate number 168978, might be paroled,” she wrote in her petition.

She says she learned that Starling will be up for parole in April.

O’Boyle says while she was working in Macon, Georgia in 1986, Starling broke into her apartment and assaulted her.

The full story in her petition can be found here.  WARNING: The details of the attack are disturbing.

O’Boyle says Starling never denied raping her.

He was sentenced to 50 years in prison but could be getting out 20 years before his total sentence.

“It’s not easy to share such a personal trauma. However, I am starting this petition to protect women and young girls from a serial predator and convicted rapist,” O’Boyle wrote in her petition.

I'm asking for your help in keeping the man who raped me behind bars. Read about the crime and sign petition here:http://chn.ge/1Re9Jgp
