MESA COUNTY, Colo. — A Colorado sheriff’s deputy is living on in others even after he was killed in the line of duty.
Mesa County Deputy Derek Gerr was killed trying to arrest an armed suspect in a Colorado neighborhood Feb. 8. %

“(I) went in to see him. They had him on life support. I think in my heart, I knew he was gone," wife Kate Geer
.
And with that tragedy began an amazing journey of life for several other people.
Kate Geer said her husband donated all of his free time to his family and told her if something ever went wrong, he would never stop giving.
"I think he's just a protector. He's natural protector," Kate Geer said. "He was kept on life support for two more days to harvest his organs for donors." %

Derek Geer was buried without a liver, kidneys and a heart.
That heart ended up making its way Alan Bronson, who watched news of Derek Geer’s death from a hospital bed.
“I was saying to myself, I hope it's not him,"
"Realizing that somebody had to pass for you, I mean, that's hard, it's hard to realize that. Sometimes you wonder if you're worthy of it."
"You have the heart of the greatest man. He was, his heart was big enough for anything," Kate Geer said.
