None — This vintage video is from a 1986 edition of Monica' Closeups, just as Oprah launched the Oprah Winfrey Show. We asked Monica Pearson to share her thoughts on this interview and 25 years of Oprah as the show winds down this week.
The Oprah Show is ending this Wednesday after 25 years. Over the years, I've interviewed her many times but it is the first interview that stands out in my mind, 25 years ago.
Her show, in Chicago, was just going into syndication. She gave me and our crew a half day of her time, including behind-the-scenes access, a ride with her to an appearance and covering the appearance, even taking us to her favorite place to eat.
I remember how excited she was about the new man she just had started dating, Stedman Graham, the man who now is her significant other. If anything about her has changed over the years, it is she protects herself now, her time, her access, understandably so.
She truly now is a celebrity, who has made a difference in the lives of millions around the world. How I wish I had been granted just one more interview to put a bow on the 25 years... Oprah as she was and Oprah as she now is.
