CHAMBLEE, Ga. — One person is dead after police opened fire on a man who police believe held five store employees hostage.
The shooting happened in the AutoZone parking lot on Buford Highway in Chamblee.
Chamblee police said someone called them just before midnight Monday and said five employees were tied up inside the store.
When officers arrived, a man tried to run away. Police said when officers tried to arrest him, the man pulled out a gun.
"They gave him verbal commands to get on the ground. He refused. A struggle ensued. During the struggle, one of our officers shot and fatally wounded the suspect," Chamblee Police Department Capt. Ernesto Ford said.
None of the five employees were injured and neither were any of the officers.
The GBI is investigating.
