LITHONIA, Ga. — Corey Grigley and his girlfriend, Shalaila Daniels, spent months looking for a business online.
They finally settled upon a car emissions business for lease in Lithonia. After meeting with the owner and signing a lease, the two estimated that it would take a month before the business was up and running.
Then one day Grigley, who still surfs through ads for business opportunities on Craigslist, said he saw an ad for an auto emissions business that looked very familiar. It was the one that he had just leased.
Grigley told Channel 2 Action News reporter Jeff Dore that he contacted the man who posted the ad and that two agreed to meet at the business. The would-be seller didn't know Grigley and the owner of the property were in a convenience store nearby, while Daniels met the would-be seller.
Grigley said when she called his bluff and pulled out her camera to shoot video of him, he tried to beat a hasty retreat. They called police, resulting in the arrest of Maurice Davis.
Police charged Davis with attempted theft by deception.
