Luxury Buckhead Complex Hit Repeatedly By Thieves

ATLANTA,None — A Buckhead luxury apartment complex has been hit by thieves three times in the past three months, according to Atlanta police.

The thieves got away with $12,000 worth of electronics in the most recent theft. Channel 2 Action News obtained surveillance video of men stealing two large flat-screen televisions, including a 52-inch.

Police won't say the thefts are all connected, but all three happened at the Kingsboro apartments. The thieves managed to get into the secure complex, kick in the apartment doors and use the victims' bags to carry out their loot, police said.

Two weeks ago, resident Cindy Cates came home to find her apartment door kicked in, and the apartment was ransacked.

"My clothes were all over the floor. I don't have to tell you that's kind of a creepy feeling," Cates told Channel 2's John Bachman.

She was missing two televisions, two laptops, a netbook, two iPods, a computer monitor, a keyboard and an alarm clock.

Surveillance video showed two men walking through an exterior door less than two hours after Cates left for work. Twenty minutes later, the men left the apartment with Cates' luggage bag loaded with her electronics. They were 15 seconds shy of running into a maintenance man who walked down the hallway.

Atlanta detectives said the thieves were likely prepared.

"In my experience, they were looking at her and watching her," Detective E.L. Bowman said.

WSB-TV Buckhead Kingsboro Apts In December, the complex's surveillance cameras caught one man committing the same type of robbery on two separate days. Bowman said police weren't sure if there's a connection to the latest incident.

"At this point, we're not sure, but I would like to catch the guys so I can ask them myself," Bowman said.

Cates said the complex is helping her put an alarm in her unit, and they've added cameras, along with an on-site security guard.
