Bobcat spotted in Carrollton

Workers at the Carrollton Water Treatment Plant said they were surprised to see a bobcat walking on busy North Park Street, just off Interstate 20.

CARROLLTON, Ga. — Workers at the Carrollton Water Treatment Plant said they were surprised to see a bobcat walking on busy North Park Street, just off Interstate 20.

Lab analyst Bethany Simmons was on a dam when she and a colleague spotted the bobcat.

“She crossed this way, and the guy, he told me ‘You’ll never see another one ever again.’ And it was the same afternoon, and we come out here and she walks back across this way,” Simmons told Channel 2's Jeff Dore.

After a few sightings, they rigged up a camera.

Eddie Mitchell, a plant supervisor, said he loves the visitor.

“Well, I sent out an email to some of my friends that I know and told then to meet our new class-three operator,” Mitchell joked.

Meanwhile, Simmons, who admits she’s a little frightened of the bobcat, prefers to like it from a distance.

Experts said she shouldn’t be too worried. Bobcats are too skittish to come near humans but advise people to still play it safe.

“We know not to go up to try and approach it at all, but they said it's another part of the family here at the plant,” Mitchell said.
