Woman seeking 24-hour nurse reaches sex hotline

ROME, Ga. — A one-digit mistake led a woman to call a sex hotline instead of healthcare hotline.

Complications from throat cancer meant Kathy Eden recently needed nurse assistance at her Floyd County home. She got a visit from Floyd Home Care and was given a patient orientation booklet.

Eden called the number printed in the booklet to get in contact with a 24-hour nurse, but instead reached a sex hotline.

"When I called the number, it said, 'Hello, anything you want,'" Eden said.

Eden said she was sure she had made a mistake, but when she called the number again, she reached the sex hotline again.

Channel 2's Eric Philips called the number listed in the pamphlet and got the same result.

"Talk to ladies all over the county," a recording said. Then the recording directed Philips to another 800 number that offered to allow callers to speak with 18-year-old women.

Floyd Home Care is owned by Louisiana-based LHC Group. The company's vice president of marketing said there was a printing error and the company is working on replacing the misprinted booklets with new ones. She apologized for the inconvenience.

"I cannot imagine how many elderly people have called that number for help," Eden said.
