DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A woman was walking down the street when a man jumped out of a car, held a gun to her head and stole her purse.
It happened Wednesday on Iverson Street in the Candler Park neighborhood of DeKalb County.
"Next thing I know, there's someone behind me and he's got a gun on my forehead telling me to let go of my purse," the woman who asked not to be identified said.
She told Channel 2's Carl Willis that she was on her friend's lawn Wednesday when a driver came speeding up, slammed on the brakes in front of her car and someone else hopped out.
With no time to react and facing what she considered a life or death threat, she said she collapsed.
"With a gun on my head I was just trying to get as far away from the gun as I could get. And part of that was dropping to the ground," the victim said.
The homeowner and her family inside had no idea what was happening just a few feet away.
"It's terrifying because I have two kids and they play in the front yard," one of the victim's friends told Willis.
The victim said she's working with Atlanta police to try to find out if the armed robbery is connected to at least one other incident that happened that night in Kirkwood.
"I went over and looked at some pictures, and I think they're really trying to look into and seeing if it's connected to other robberies in this area," she said.
Despite their tactics, the thieves didn't get much.
"It was just her wallet and a bunch of poetry, so hopefully they'll be enlightened," the friend told Willis.
The victim says hopefully the police can find the person behind the gun.
"It seemed scary later when you thought about (it). He could have accidentally shot me and that's pretty frightening," the victim said.
