Woman says bed bug bites almost forced doctors to amputate her leg

MARIETTA, Ga. — A woman says her body is so badly scarred from a bed bug attack it is affecting her dating life.

Dashawn Diaz says she will only sleep on white sheets after she was bitten by bed bugs over a three-day period at a Marietta hotel.

"I woke up literally feeling like something was eating me," Diaz says.

Diaz said people keep asking her about the scars all over her body.

"I just get overwhelmed with having to explain to them all the time what happened to me," Diaz says.

Diaz says management at the Crestwood Suites on Roswell Road eventually moved her into another room, but it was too late. She says she later developed an infection in her leg.

"This is an actual wound that came from one of the bed bugs that infected my leg," Diaz says.

Diaz says she was hospitalized and doctors discussed amputating her leg.

Now, she has filed a lawsuit against the hotel. Her attorney, Sparticus Heyward, says the hotel is at fault.

"We believe they were on notice that they had a bed bug problem and they didn't do enough to prevent my client from suffering the severe injuries that she did," Heyward says.

Diaz says the scars have left her feeling depressed and less than beautiful.

"I feel like my whole life has been altered and shattered because of these bed bug bites," Diaz says.

The hotel manager says she cannot discuss the lawsuit.
