TUCKER, Ga. — A woman says she was slapped by a musician during a concert in Tucker earlier this month, an alleged confrontation captured on cellphone video that is now the subject of a police report.

Shamika Boyd’s attorneys say they are preparing to pursue the matter in civil court.
The alleged incident happened on September 6th at the Londzell Performing Arts Theatre. Boyd’s daughter, Jada Boyd, was also part of the concert lineup, performing a DJ set that night.
Jada says she was not performing when her mother was allegedly slapped, did not witness what happened and only learned about it afterward.
Video circulating on social media appears to show Southern soul singer Sky Whatley reaching down from the stage toward a woman in the crowd before striking her across the face.
“There is nothing that he could say to justify what he did,” Jada Boyd said. “It was very wrong and it was sickening to actually see that happening.”
According to a DeKalb County police report, Shamika Boyd told officers Whatley called her to the stage and acted as though he was going to give her a high five. She said he then reached back and slapped her.
Boyd told police the slap left both of her eyes black and chipped a tooth that had recently received a composite fixture.
“For you to bend down and slap her, that’s not an accident,” said Atiya Vereen, one of Boyd’s attorneys with The Render Law Firm.

Attorney Shannin Render said concertgoers may accept certain risks when attending a venue, but she said being slapped is not one of them.
“When you’re a patron of a venue, you assume certain risks, but being slapped isn’t one of them,” Render said.
Boyd’s attorneys are also questioning how the venue handled the situation afterward.
They say Boyd was removed from the venue following the alleged altercation while Whatley was allowed to continue performing. The attorneys say they are examining the venue’s response as part of their case, including whether other parties could potentially be held responsible.
Jada Boyd said her mother has been most affected by the embarrassment of what happened.
“I know she doesn’t like talking about it and she’s ready to put it past her as well,” Jada Boyd said.
Channel 2 Action News reached out to Whatley through social media and the email address listed on his Linktree page, asking for his response to the allegation. We have not heard back.
Boyd has filed a police report. No arrest or criminal charge has been confirmed in connection with the alleged incident.
The video does not establish what happened immediately before or after the portion captured on camera.
