DEKALB COUNTY, Ga — Dunwoody police are looking for a man who broke into a woman’s apartment and confronted her in own bedroom.
The victim, who didn’t want her identity released, told Channel 2’s Mike Petchenik she awoke to hear noises in her Camden Dunwoody apartment about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.
“When I opened my eyes there was a man standing in the doorway of my bedroom,” she said. “Needless to say, I was about to have a heart attack.”
The woman said she screamed at the top of her lungs.
“What are you doing here? Who are you, how’d you get in here?” she said. “Just screaming.”
She said the man asked if someone named “Mike” was there, then fled out a back door.
“It was the scariest thing I’ve ever been through,” she said. “That’s a woman’s worst nightmare, to wake up and see a man standing in your bedroom. I was horrified.”
Dunwoody police told Petchenik they want to know if the man intentionally broke into the apartment or if it was some kind of mistake.
“We definitely want to get this person identified and confirm whether this was a burglary or something else,” said Officer Tim Fecht.
Fecht said detectives were consulting with Roswell Police about a similar case last week in which a man broke into a woman’s townhome on Old Ferry Way. In that case, police said the man attacked the victim and attempted to sexually assault her.
“If it’s similar to that situation we definitely want to get that person in custody as soon as possible so that no other victims are harmed or traumatized by such an event,” said Fecht.
