Woman accused of embezzling $22K from animal clinic

NORTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A former worker at the Alpharetta Animal Hospital is accused of embezzling about $22,000 from her employer.

Pamela Ferrand counts herself among Alpharetta Animal Hospital's most loyal clients, which is why she was shocked to learn that police accuse a former loyal clinic employee of embezzling thousands.

"That's a lot of money. I hate to think what situation she felt she was in where she had to take that money," Ferrand said. "I feel bad for her but also for the business."

Barbara Holley has been an employee at Alpharetta Animal Hospital for four decades.

Alpharetta Police Officer George Gordon says a co-worker discovered an accounting discrepancy and started auditing the books.

Police say Holley would pocket money from cash transactions that she voided.

When Holley was confronted by management about this, she confessed and resigned, police said.

The head vet at the office tells Channel 2's Mike Petchenik he was hurt more than anything by what happened.

Police say what happened is a cautionary tale for any employer.

"You got to have accountability, an audit trail, some financial mechanism to ensure that everything is correct as it should be," Gordon said.

Holley has yet to be arrested by police. They are giving her time to turn herself in.
