COLLEGE PARK, Ga.,None — College Park officials said the city cut off the water to an entire condominium development and everyone there must move out Tuesday.
Residents at the Yorktown condos knew it was coming, but it was still a hard move for many. Alfred Kimber owned his condo for 34 years. Channel 2's Jeff Dore was at the scene as he moved his oven from his home around noon. He was one of the residents who hung onto the hope of life at Yorktown to the bitterly cold end.
"We got to leave our homes, and it's just a horrible situation," Kimber told Dore.
Frozen notices posted on every unit said the water was being cut off because of a $338,000 past-due bill. City officials said it was shut off at 9 a.m.

A College Park spokesman said the city bent over backward to work with the condo owners and Marquise Management, but time ran out. Residents met Monday night and pooled $10,000 to try to prevent off the water cutoff, but it was too little, too late.
Renter Leroy Evelyn said she didn't know about the issue when she moved in.
"I wish my landlord had told me that from before. I wouldn't be in this crisis here," she said.
Many of the units were already vacant and quite a few already boarded up. Moving is a financial hardship for some, but with the water off, they have no choice.
"You still got people trying to figure out what they're going to do. It's a lot of people don't have funds to move out. It's just a bad situation," Kimber said.
