• Video shows alleged drunken man leading police on chase

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - Channel 2 Action News has obtained police video of a man who led officers on a high-speed chase trying to talk his way out of being arrested.

Duluth police officers said the driver hit speeds of more than 100 miles an hour.

Witnesses say the alleged drunk driver avoided cops in that chase, but then couldn't avoid his own mouth once he stopped.

Duluth police said after Jason Abercrombie, 26, ran a red light and nearly caused a crash with a big rig, he took off from an officer.

"When he got behind him and turned on the blue lights, the individual immediately accelerated," said Maj. Don Woodruff of the Duluth Police Department.

Police said it got so dangerous, they called off the chase, but Abercrombie kept on going.

"He just turned off the lights again. He's almost going a hundred miles an hour," Woodruff said, commenting on the video footage.

Abercrombie apparently drove into Johns Creek and into a cul-de-sac.

"It was riding on rims at that time," one of the neighbors told Channel 2's Tony Thomas.

The witness said Abercrombie jumped out of his car and began boasting to someone on the phone about how he'd just outrun the cops.

Johns Creek police soon arrived, and a dashcam recorder captured Abercrombie trying to talk his way out of an arrest.

Police have charged the 26-year-old with DUI, drug possession and traffic violations.

"(We) did find some marijuana and some obvious indicators that he had been intoxicated," Woodruff said.

The police report said officers found an open bottle of alcohol in the car.
