VIDEO: Customers held at gunpoint at Waffle King

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Police are searching for the man who robbed the Waffle King restaurant on Flat Shoals Road in DeKalb County at gunpoint last Monday.

Surveillance cameras inside caught the man walking into the restaurant and ordering all the customers to the floor.

The video showed him wearing a distinctive striped head wrap. He demanded cash from the register while pointing the gun at customers. The video shows workers filling a bag with cash as the man yells at them to hurry up. He then takes the money and runs out the front door.

Channel 2's Audrey Washington spoke exclusively with the restaurant manager, who wanted to remain anonymous but said he saw where the suspect fled.

"After robbing the customers he ran out, around the back and across to the apartments across the street," said the manager.

The manager said he believes his restaurant was targeted because it's open 24 hours.

Waffle King's location may have also been part of the problem. Customer James Dent said he sees people with guns in the area all the time.

"There's so many people coming through here, just walking from this hotel with guns," said Dent.

We spoke with the president of the Royal Waffle King, who said he is now considering tighter security measures.

"I think somebody's physical presence will kind of make a difference," he told Washington.

No one was hurt in the armed robbery. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police.
