Truck in Forsyth chase crashes into tree

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Authorities are investigating a deputy pursuit that ended with the suspect crashing into a tree Wednesday afternoon.

A Forsyth County sheriff's deputy was trying to make a traffic stop on Georgia 400 when the suspect, identified as Brandon Friday, of Dunwoody, drove off.

The deputy chased Friday into Alpharetta. The suspect got off on Haynes Bridge Road. Friday eventually made a U-turn and headed back towards 400 before crashing into a tree for unknown reasons. Alpharetta firefighters were able to get Friday out of the truck with a minor wrist injury, officials said.

Channel 2's Mike Petchenik shot video of crews trying to clear the truck at the scene.

Deputies told Channel 2's Wendy Corona they detected some sort of possible alcohol or drug use. Friday was given the opportunity to take a DUI or drug test but he refused. He was then taken to the Forsyth County Detention Center.

The driver, who deputies said was driving 86 mph in a 65 mph zone, is facing various charges ranging from DUI to several driving infractions.

Alpharetta police officers are investigating the crash. Forsyth sheriff's investigators are handling the chase.
