ATLANTA, Ga. — The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a safety warning for parents of small babies as many families hit the road for the holidays.
CPSC encouraged parents to ensure that homes they travel to during the holidays are baby proofed. They said that doing this can help families plan for potential scenarios.

Channel 2′s Samantha Manning spoke with David and Rebecca Richelsoph, a Washington D.C. family who had to plan for holiday travel to ensure the safety of their 2-year-old daughter Rosie.
In addition to packing all of Rosie’s familiar belongings, the Richelsophs also had to make sure the homes they were going to were baby-ready.

“It has really helped to be like, okay, this might have been okay for me when I was two in 1986, but it’s not good for my 2-year-old in 2022,” Richelsoph said.
According to the CPSC, some of the most significant hazards can happen where the baby sleeps. Parents will want to make sure the crib is empty.
“No extraneous blankets, no crib bumpers, no pillows. Just a flat sheet,” Alexander Hoehn-Saric, CPSC Chairman, said. “These aren’t necessarily things that your parents, grandparents think about, but we want to make sure if they’re going to a new environment to keep the baby safe.”
The Richelsophs added that having conversations like these are good to have year-round, not just during the holidays.
“Making the holiday successful is a lot about conversations that are had outside the context of the holidays and then also recognizing, I don’t think we put it all on them,” Richelsoph said. “We make sure we’re present and attentive and notice things.”
