Man pistol-whipped during south Fulton home invasion

SOUTH FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — A SWAT team is looking for a group of men who pistol-whipped a homeowner during an invasion.

Investigators said the victim, believed to be in his 30s, was home alone when three masked men broke into his home on Dogwood Drive in Hapeville. The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Police say the robbers beat him and rummaged through the home looking for other people inside.

The victim was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s house where they called police. The neighbor told police that they never saw the group of men leave the residence, which prompted SWAT officers to surround the home Friday night.

"There are other exits to the home but they're secured with burglar bar systems and the key's broken off, so there's no way to open those doors at this time," said Hapeville Police Detective Stephen Cushing.

Police are investigating the situation and SWAT officers remained at the scene into the late hours of Friday night.
